The valley of the Helhunds. A wide vale, white with snow and the dotting of thick pine forests. The place is filled with animals who wander restricted by the laws of nature. None who kill are without judgement, the judges are the Hunds of Lady Hel.

As Kadence walked home, she spotted Corvus miss the rabbit. She sighed, remembering a snow goose she'd snagged the previous day. She ran to the spot where she'd buried it, dug it up and trotted back. She tossed it to Corvus and started on her way home again.

Out of the blue Corvus was smacked by a limp goose. He jumped, flinging himself back and accidentally into bushes where he struggled to get out. Eventually climbing free of the flora-prison, he sauntered over to the snow goose, sniffing it and then looking around. What the heck? he thought.

Kadence looked over her shoulder once, and entered her territory, smirking a little at herself for giving away perfectly good food.

Cygnus began to think about being alone, with her brother, until the day they both died. She shuddered at such a miserable future. It seemed, however, that whenever they had a potential new start it was always squandered, by her aggression or her brother's promiscuous behavior. She sighed heavily. Corvus trotted back with a goose in his jaws. "Just fell outta the sky," he said, tone jocular and hoping she'd forgive him.

Sandpiper nuzzled her sister, apologizing for the fight they'd been in earlier. "Look, sorry about starting that with the strangers..." Kadence sighed, shaking her head. "It's fine. Just try to be accommodating. We need allies, the two of us can't top a smilodon alone." Sandpiper tilted her head to the side and nodded. Seems legit. Sandpiper licked Kadence's forehead apologetically.

( What a Face )

(omg lol that face xD)

About a half hour after the siblings had eaten, they were sprawled in the snow, stomachs full. Corvus rolled around, groaning as his black fur collected a blanket of ivory snow. His tongue lolled from his maw and he whined out of boredom and fullness. "I think I'm going to explode..." he half sighed half chuckled. Cygnus nodded in agreement and rolled toward her brother, laying her head on his side like a pillow and falling asleep. Corvus followed her example and fell asleep himself.

Sandpiper and Kadence curled up for the night when there was the sound of horns knocking against stone. Three times. Kadence bolted upright and ran to the edge of the cave.
There was an older hund sitting outside, a smile on his face. "Bleeker!" The hund nodded. Kadence tackled him, licking his face in her excitement. Bleeker grinned, licking her gently on the forehead. "Why are you here?!" Bleeker's eyes lost their humor. "Birchwood and Darken told me to fetch as many hunds as I could find. You were the only one who was...I...I didn't have the heart to find anyone else."

The next morning Cygnus woke to her head jerking and hitting the floor and Corvus flew out from under her and ran after a squirrel, barking. He'd been up for quite some time, not moving so Cygnus could sleep, but after about twenty minutes of furry temptation he lost himself and bolted after the busy tailed vermin. He blew through the woods like a hawk's shadow.

"Shall I come with you? But should I tell Sandpiper?" Bleeker shook his head, "I already cleared it with her. You can come with me whenever you are ready." He licked her scruffy mane, a signature for everyone in her family. She blushed, remembering how close she and Bleeker had been after Malchiek's attacked. "Just a moment." Kadence trotted inside and moved a few pebbles into the shape of an arrow pointing West and one blue one in the center, meaning Kadence had left to go see the elders. She joined Bleeker and smiled, "I'm ready."

Corvus's nose and ears had succumbed to the rush of the forest reflected in his eyes. Blindly he ran, guided only by sight. He narrowly avoided trees, now closing in on the russet rodent. A low branch blocked his path as he chased it, and so he decided to jump over it. As he did so his back right paw got caught on the branch. It caused him to flip, he hit the ground hard on his back and flank and proceeded to roll uncontrollably down a hill that led to the Tar Pits. He screamed as he was flung--head over heels, again and again--down the side of the hill and onto the rough rocky swamp of molten ebony. His glossy black fur was dark-purple in spots where rocks had cut into his skin from the tumble. The igneous rock, sharp and ominous, was like knives on the lower half of the hillside and jutted up in the pits like fingers pointing toward the heavens. He slowly rose to his feet, head throbbing and legs wobbly. Blinking, he looked around, bewildered. Everything he saw was blurred, duplicated, and spinning around him. That image of the world, rolling like waves on a beach, made him nauseous. His body hacked, he made disgusting noises, and vomited bile and goose feathers. He looked around; the world was distorted, and then dark. His vision became spotty, then he collapsed in an amassing puddle of his own dark red blood.

As Kadence and Bleeker galloped through the night, they passed a hund. Drawn by the potent stench of helhund blood. Kadence screeched to a halt, turning as she bolted the Corvus's side. "Bleeker! He's hurt!" The older male turned and came to Kadence's side, worry lining his face. "Young man! Are you alright? Speak up if you can hear me!"

Laying there, body wet and throbbing, he attempted to say something, but only a soft whimper escaped his throat before he succumb to the pain and blacked out completely.

Cygnus was getting nervous. Where was that arse? She fretted in silence for a while before getting up and tracking him down; a task made easy with his war-path through the brush.

Kadence panicked, pacing back and forth while Bleeker wracked his brain for ideas. "Aah!" Bleeker turned to Kadence and barked, "Quick, ice water and aloe!" Kadence nodded and hurtled off into the twilight.
